Nazar

A common misnomer in Gnostic etymologies is the phrase: Jesus the Nazarite. The common belief is that this title is referring to Jesus as a personage from the town of Nazareth, however, scholars have discovered something very unique about this title. According to the Aramaic language (ancient Hebrew), someone from the town of Nazareth in the era of Jesus' time, would have been called a Nazarene, not a Nazarite. A closer look into the root word "Nazar" reveals that a Nazar during that period would have been referring to a healer or shaman or "medicine man". Therefore the title of Jesus the Nazarite is referring to Jesus' ability to heal others, as opposed to his earthly origins.
